今回も、小名木善行さんのお話の備忘録です。
律令制度の元で、日本は天然の災害が多いため、いざという時に人々が生き残るために米を備蓄していく仕組みなど、神社のネットワークを利用して全国を一つにまとめる仕組みが出来上がりました。

神社の役割
ところが仏教が日本に入ってからは、これまでの仕組みとは異なる仕組みがお寺を中心に起こり始めました。
お寺のための荘園を持ち始め、寄進をたくさん受けるために財力も持ち始め、多くの人々を傘下に持っていたために事実上の権力も持ち始めるようになりました。
この時代を築いた一人に道鏡という僧がいました。
この道鏡、非常に優秀な僧で、天皇の相談などにも的確に答え、白黒をはっきりとさせ、決断力もあり、弁も立ち、さらにはイケメンで、天皇からの信頼も厚かったそうです。
さらには大勢の部下を従えていたため、次第に朝廷でも大きな力を持つようになってきました。
どこまでも天皇に尽くすとう姿勢を崩さなければ良かったのですが、ある日、大分の宇佐八幡宮で「次の天皇は私がなるべきである。私を天皇にすれば、日本も安泰であるというご神託を受けた」と言い始めました。
・・・なんか、足利尊氏みたい（笑）
この時点で、道鏡に逆らえる人はだれもいませんでした。
朝廷の中では完全に道鏡の顔色を伺いながら仕事をするといった状況だったからです。
道鏡がある意味、最高権力者だったわけです。
その道鏡、何を血迷ったのか、皇位の簒奪にかかってきたのです。

The Heian Capital and the Japanese Political System①
This is a reminder of Zenko Onagi’s talk.
Under the Ritsuryo system, a system was established to unite the whole country using a network of shrines, including a system of stockpiling rice to help people survive in times of emergency, since Japan is prone to natural disasters.
After Buddhism entered Japan, however, a different system began to emerge, centered on temples.
They began to have manors for temples, they began to receive many donations, they began to have financial power, and they began to have de facto power because they had many people under their control.
One of the founders of this period was a monk named Dōkyō.
He was an extremely talented monk, who was able to answer the Emperor’s questions, make clear what was right and wrong, make decisions, and speak eloquently.
He also had a large number of subordinates, and gradually became a very powerful figure in the Imperial Court.
He should have remained committed to the emperor, but one day, at a shrine in Oita, he was told, “I should be the next emperor. One day, at a shrine in Oita, he began to say, “I have received an oracle that Japan will be safe if I am the next emperor”.
He was like Ashikaga Takauji (laugh).
At this point, no one could resist Dōkyō.
The situation was such that the Imperial Court had to work completely according to Dōkyō’s wishes.
In a sense, Dōkyō was the highest authority.
What was it that Dōkyō had lost his mind and decided to usurp the Imperial Throne?
