唐が新羅と組んでまず何をしたか？
唐は新羅が何を欲しいのかを聞きました。
すると新羅は「百済の土地が欲しい」と言いました。
「じゃあ、唐から軍隊を出して百済を滅ぼすから、それを唐と新羅がやったことにすればいい」と持ちかけたのです。
そして唐は百済に軍隊を送り込み、百済を滅ぼしてしまいました。
一応、唐と新羅の連合軍が百済を滅ぼしたということにしたのです。
こうしないと、唐が百済を滅ぼしたということになると、新羅に入り込んだ唐の軍隊が倭国（日本）と高句麗に挟み撃ちにされてしまいます。
新羅も一緒になってやったとなれば、倭国と新羅は一応同盟国なので、倭国がすぐに軍隊を送り込むということにはなりません。
唐と新羅が百済を攻めている間は、倭国はそう簡単に手を出すことができなかったのです。
そして、百済が滅んでから、倭国は軍隊を送らざるを得なくなりました。
しかし、いざ３年間戦ってみれば、倭国と唐の軍隊だけが戦っていることに気づきました。
新羅は逃げるだけで戦おうとしなかったからです。
そこで、倭国は唐と話し合いをした結果、倭国は戦線を下げて軍隊を引き上げることにしたのです。

What was the first thing the Tang Dynasty did when it teamed up with Silla?
The Tang Dynasty asked what Silla wanted.
Silla said, “I want the land of Baekje”.
The Tang Dynasty then offered to send an army from the Tang Dynasty to destroy Baekje, so that it could be claimed that the Tang Dynasty and Silla had done it together.
The Tang Dynasty then sent an army to Baekje and destroyed it.
In a manner of speaking, it was assumed that the allied forces of Tang and Silla destroyed Baekje.
Otherwise, if the Tang Dynasty destroyed Baekje, Tang troops who entered Silla would be caught between Japan and Koguryo.
If Silla did it together, it would not mean that Japan would immediately send its army into Silla, since Japan and Silla are allies in one way or another.
As long as Tang and Silla were attacking Baekje, Japan could not be easily manipulated in this way.
And after Baekje was destroyed, Japan was forced to send troops.
However, when it came time to fight for three years, they realized that only the armies of Japan and Tang were fighting.
Silla only ran away and did not try to fight.
So, after discussions with the Tang Dynasty, Japan decided to lower its front line and pull back its army.
